According to a preliminary report by the Department of Irrigation and Natural Disaster Prevention of Thai Nguyen Province, during the thunderstorm on the evening of April 15 and the early morning of April 16, six houses had their roofs blown off in Thuong Minh and Nam Cuong communes and 1.6 hectares of corn were flattened. Estimated damage stood at approximately VND 110 million.
Notably, in the early morning of April 17, thunderstorms accompanied by a tornado in the southern area of the province claimed one life (in Dai Phuc Commune), as a resident was struck by a falling tree.

Immediately after the disaster struck, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People’s Committee directed localities to swiftly carry out response and recovery operations in accordance with the “four on-site” principle, while organizing visits, encouragement and support for affected families in accordance with regulations. In Dai Phuc Commune, party and government authorities and mass organizations promptly visited and provided the victim’s family with support totaling VND 12.5 million.
Functional forces also quickly deployed to the scene to address incidents, clear fallen trees and ensure uninterrupted traffic; and to inspect and remedy electrical incidents to minimize safety hazards. District and City People’s Committees proactively reviewed and recorded damage and assisted residents in addressing the aftermath to restore normal living conditions as soon as possible.
In the face of increasingly extreme and unpredictable weather patterns, particularly as the rainy and storm season approaches, all levels of government, agencies and residents must heighten vigilance; limit travel during thunderstorms and strong winds; pay close attention to electrical safety; and proactively develop plans for natural disaster prevention and mitigation in order to minimize loss of life and property.
