Delegation of the Standing Board of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment visits and works at SEVT
On the morning of June 12, a working delegation of the Standing Board of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, led by Comrade Nguyen Thanh Hai, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee, Member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Chairwoman of the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, paid a working visit to Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen Co., Ltd. (SEVT). The program aimed to survey and gather practical information to serve the review and finalization of the Draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Electricity.

The delegation also included Standing Members of the National Assembly Committees on: Science, Technology and Environment; Law and Justice; Economy and Finance; representatives of a number of central ministries and agencies, and Vietnam Electricity (EVN). On the part of Thai Nguyen Province were Comrade Ha Sy Huan, Permanent Deputy Head of the Provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies; Comrade Duong Van Luong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of relevant departments and agencies.

Receiving and working with the delegation were Mr. Kim Yong Sup, Deputy General Director of Samsung Vietnam, along with representatives of SEVT's leadership.

Speaking at the working session, Chairwoman of the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment Nguyen Thanh Hai emphasized: The amended Law on Electricity (2024) has incorporated the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism, enabling enterprises to use renewable energy sources and contributing to the fulfillment of green and sustainable development commitments. Currently, SEVT is the first enterprise in Vietnam to officially implement the purchase and sale of renewable electricity through this mechanism. She noted that, in the process of continuing to finalize the Draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Electricity, the National Assembly wishes to hear practical feedback from enterprises regarding the implementation process, difficulties and obstacles encountered, as well as recommendations and proposals aimed at expanding the scope of application of the Direct Power Purchase Agreement mechanism in the coming time.

On behalf of Samsung Vietnam, Mr. Kim Yong Sup expressed his pleasure at welcoming the working delegation and affirmed that throughout the investment, manufacturing, and business operations in Vietnam, Samsung has always received the attention, support, and collaboration of the Government, the National Assembly, and various ministries, agencies, and localities. Samsung Vietnam and SEVT have consistently strived to fully comply with Vietnamese legal regulations while actively contributing opinions to the process of formulating and improving policies.

Mr. Kim Yong Sup commended the National Assembly and relevant authorities for promptly listening to and incorporating feedback from the business community, thereby helping to ensure the feasibility and effectiveness of policies when put into practice. Thanks to the favorable investment environment and the support of all levels and sectors, Samsung's business operations in Vietnam have continued to grow steadily. Regarding the enterprise's sustainable development orientation, Mr. Kim Yong Sup also affirmed: Samsung will continue partnering with Vietnam in promoting the development of the renewable energy market, expanding the use of clean energy, and actively contributing to global climate change response efforts.

At the working session, delegates focused their discussions on the barriers affecting enterprises' access to the Direct Power Purchase Agreement mechanism; issues related to procedures, electricity pricing, and the operating mechanism; and proposed solutions to remove obstacles and promote more effective and widespread implementation of the policy in the coming time.

The working program was an important occasion for the National Assembly's reviewing body to directly hear opinions from enterprises, thereby gaining additional practical grounds to serve the finalization of the Draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Electricity, ensuring its feasibility, effectiveness, and responsiveness to the country's development requirements in the new period.
