Identifying tea trees as a strength of Thai Nguyen province, aiming to exploit the value from tea trees to build brands and develop advantageous agricultural products of the province, in 2023, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province ordered and assigned Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry to implement the Research Project “Researching and building a process of raising pigs for meat from natural food supplemented with Thai Nguyen green tea materials”, with implementation time from June 2023 to June 2025.

During the implementation of the Research Project, the research team experimented with supplementing different levels of green tea leaf powder in the diet for pigs, thereby selecting the optimal formula bringing the highest value to the product. From the research results, experimental models were launched at households and cooperatives. The conclusion of the experiment showed that pigs have good growth ability, meat quality is more delicious than other traditional farming methods and initially received good evaluation from consumers.

Speaking at the Conference, Comrade Nguyen Thi Loan, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee, commended and highly appreciated the efforts of the University of Agriculture and Forestry and the research team for excellently completing the assigned tasks. She affirmed that the result of the Research Project is also proof of the effective combination of science and technology with the province's strong agricultural products, suitable for the direction of developing green, sustainable agriculture that Thai Nguyen province aims for. She emphasized that the green tea pork product being granted a trademark certificate will contribute to exclusive legal protection, increase the prestige and reliability of the product, create a competitive advantage in the market, contribute to expanding the product market and provide an additional opportunity to promote Thai Nguyen Tea. She assigned tasks to related departments and branches to research and propose policies to accompany and support the expansion of livestock scale at cooperatives, enterprises and households. The University of Agriculture and Forestry is to research putting the process into the practical teaching curriculum for students. She assigned tasks to cooperatives implementing the model to organize booths displaying and promoting products processed from green tea pork to introduce at the "Thai Nguyen - Fragrance and Charm of Renowned Tea" Festival to be organized by the province this December.
