Opening ceremony of the U18 National Athletics Championship
On the afternoon of June 8, at Thai Nguyen Province Stadium, the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Sports Authority of Vietnam and the Vietnam Athletics Federation, held the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 U18 National Athletics Championship.

This year's competition attracted nearly 900 delegation leaders, coaches, support staff, and athletes from 36 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide, including: An Giang, Bac Ninh, Ca Mau, Cao Bang, People's Public Security, Dak Lak, Dien Bien, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Gia Lai, Ha Tinh, Hung Yen, Khanh Hoa, Lai Chau, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Lam Dong, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh, Quang Ngai, Quang Tri, the Military, Son La, Tay Ninh, Can Tho, Da Nang, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa, Vinh Long, and Thai Nguyen (host).

According to the plan, the Championship runs from June 5 to June 15, 2026, with competition for 100 sets of medals in individual and team events for both men and women across four age groups: U12, U14, U16, and U18.

Delivering the opening remarks, Comrade Doan Van Cong, Deputy Director of Thai Nguyen Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized that the 2026 U18 National Athletics Championship is a meaningful sporting event aimed at evaluating young athlete development across localities, and at identifying and nurturing promising talents for the national team in the future. It is also an opportunity for athletes to exchange experiences and strengthen solidarity and friendship among units across the country. As the host locality, Thai Nguyen Province has proactively coordinated with relevant professional agencies to thoroughly prepare the facilities, venues, professional services, medical support, security, and all conditions for the Championship. Hosting the Championship not only contributes to promoting the high-performance sports movement but also serves as an opportunity to promote the image of the land, people, and distinctive cultural values of Thai Nguyen to friends across the country.
