The contest attracting a large number of people and tourists to watch and cheer

This year's contest features the participation of 19 teams from villages and hamlets in Ba Be Commune. Each team consists of 3 members and must make at least 10 "con" balls within 60 minutes; the team that makes beautiful, sturdy, colorful balls faster and in larger quantities… will win.

The outside of the "con" ball is decorated with brilliantly colored fabric. The inside is stuffed with diverse materials such as sand, paddy, sesame seeds, mustard seeds and cotton seeds. The wish nurturing seeds for spring to sprout, bloom and bear fruit represents the dream of a new year with bumper harvests, warm and happy homes. The "con" ball flying high represents the harmony of heaven and earth.

To decorate the "con" ball, the women also sew on colorful fabric tassels, which not only embellish the ball to make it more shimmering like fresh flowers against the blue sky but also help orient the ball to fly to the right target when thrown.

Finished "con" balls will be selected, evaluated and awarded prizes by the Organizing Committee; and simultaneously displayed at Ba Be Commune Cultural Space.

The "con" ball sewing contest is one of the unique activities at the Ba Be Long Tong Festival 2026, bringing a joyful and vibrant atmosphere, improving the spiritual life of the People in the early days of the new spring; simultaneously being an occasion to promote and introduce the image, land and people of Thai Nguyen. People and tourists coming to the Festival will be immersed in participating in the "con" throwing game on the morning of the 10th day of the first Lunar month - the main festival day. This is a folk game bearing profound humanistic value, demonstrating the people's belief in praying for a new year with favorable rain and wind and the proliferation of all things.
