Thai Nguyen Province delegation offers incense in commemoration of the death anniversary of Emperor Ly Nam De
On the afternoon of May 6 (the 20th day of the third lunar month), at the National Relic Site of the Ly Nam De Temple (Den Muc), Thai Nguyen Province delegation paid tribute in commemoration of the 1,478th death anniversary of Emperor Ly Nam De.
The delegation was led by Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee. Joining the delegation were Comrade Vuong Quoc Tuan, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; members of the Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Party Standing Committee; the Standing Board of the Provincial People’s Council, the leadership of the Provincial People’s Committee and the Fatherland Front Committee of the province; and members of the Standing Board of the Party Committee, the People’s Council and the leadership of the People’s Committee of Van Xuan ward.

Emperor Ly Nam De’s real name was Ly Bon, also known as Ly Bi, born on the 12th day of the 9th lunar month of the year Quy Mui (October 17, 503 AD). He was a native of Co Phap village, Tien Phong commune, Pho Yen district, Thai Nguyen Province (now Van Xuan ward, Thai Nguyen Province). Ly Bi was a man of both literary and martial talent. In 542 AD, Ly Bi rallied heroes, mobilized the people to rise up in revolt, achieved a resounding victory and drove the invading Liang dynasty forces out of the country. On the 12th day of the first lunar month of 544 AD, Ly Bi ascended the throne, proclaimed himself Ly Nam De, adopted the reign title Thien Duc and named the country Van Xuan, expressing the hope that the nation would remain enduring and prosperous for ten thousand years, with the people living in peace and happiness. He was the first Vietnamese to proclaim himself Emperor, the first king to found the Earlier Ly dynasty and the creator of the state of Van Xuan in Vietnamese history. Emperor Ly Nam De passed away on the 13th day of the 4th lunar month of 548 AD (the 20th day of the 3rd lunar month).

In a solemn and reverential atmosphere, Thai Nguyen Province delegation and the leadership of Van Xuan ward solemnly offered flowers and incense in tribute to the merits and contributions of Emperor Ly Nam De and his generals; and prayed that the Emperor and his generals would bless and protect the nation so that “the country may prosper, the people may live in peace and all families may enjoy boundless blessings for generations to come”.
