"Thai Nguyen - A Hundred Years of No. 1 Famous Tea" Forum

On May 20, at Hao Dat Tea Cooperative (Tan Cuong commune, Thai Nguyen City), the Institute for Social Research in cooperation with Thai Nguyen Tea Association organized "Thai Nguyen - A Hundred Years of No. 1 Famous Tea" Forum. This is a practical activity commemorating the 5th anniversary of World Tea Day (May 21, 2020 - May 21, 2025), while also contributing to the sustainable development orientation of Vietnam's tea industry.

Delegates attending the Forum

With over a century of formation and development, Thai Nguyen tea has affirmed its position as one of Vietnam's most notable specialties. Not merely an agricultural product, Thai Nguyen tea carries profound cultural value, closely tied to the life, history and identity of local people. Historical records from the Nguyen Dynasty, such as Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi (Dai Nam Comprehensive Encyclopaedia) noted that “Nam tea in Phu Luong has a quality superior to that of other regions”. In the early 20th century, the French selected Tan Cuong area for large-scale, systematic tea development, paving the way for the product to reach international markets with its distinctive and unique flavor.

Experts discussing tea culture at the Forum

"Thai Nguyen - A Hundred Years of No. 1 Famous Tea" Forum was organized as an important highlight in the series of activities of the Journey "Vietnamese Tea - Culture and Heritage" to honor the traditional values of the tea plant, while promoting sustainable development orientation. This initiative, led by the Institute for Social Research, aims to connect researchers, tea artisans, tea-producing communities and the tourism industry.

At the Forum, experts, researchers, artisans and the tea-loving community exchanged views on Vietnamese tea culture; brand development orientation for Thai Nguyen tea; heritage preservation and sustainable development of the tea industry.

In addition, delegates experienced the art of tea ceremony performance in Vietnamese cultural life demonstrated by the province's tea artisans.
