In which, disease control is the first and most important priority to ensure the people's health, ensure social stability and safety; at the same time, effectively implement solutions to minimize damage to the economy, maintain and restore production and business, and ensure social security and people's lives.
With the drastic direction of all departments and branches, the efforts of all people, the socio-economic results in the province have still obtained positive results, social security work was interested.
1. Economic growth and economic restructuring
Gross domestic product (GRDP) in 2020 increased by 4.24% compared to 2019, of which agriculture, forestry and fishery increased by 4.15%; industry and construction increased by 4.76%; service sector and product tax increased by 3.03%. Although the growth rate in 2020 is lower than in 2019, it is still higher than the overall growth rate of the whole country.
The scale of GRDP in 2020 at current prices will reach 116 trillion VND GRDP per capita will reach 88.7 million VND/person/year, an increase of 5.2 million VND/person/year compared to 2019. Regarding the economic structure in 2020, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounts for 11.5%; industry and construction accounted for 58%; the service sector and product tax accounted for 30.5%; in which product tax minus product subsidies accounts for 4%.
2. Revenue, expenditure of State budget and Insurance
In 2020 year, the total state budget revenue in the area will reach 15.6 trillion VND, an increase of 0.02% compared to 2019. Balanced revenue in the province will reach 15.5 trillion VND, increased by 2% over the same period last year. In which, domestic revenue reached 13.1 trillion VND, increased by 0.13% and accounted for 83.9% of the total state budget revenue in the area; customs revenue reached 2.4 trillion VND, decrease of 9.5% compared to the same period.
Local budget balance expenditure in 2020 initially reached 13.8 trillion VND, increased by 7.6% compared to 2019. In which, expenditure on development investment reached 4.7 trillion VND, increased by 13.8% and accounting for 21.5% of total expenditure. Recurring expenditures reached 9 trillion VND, increased by 4.6% compared to 2019, accounting for 1.9% of expenditure structure; National target program expenditures reached 1.4 trillion VND, increased by 16% compared to 2019.
In 2020, the whole province has 1.660,4 thousand turns of insurance participants, decreased by 0.7% compared to 2019. In which, social insurance has 236.5 thousand participants, decreased by 0.6%; health insurance has 1,215.5 thousand turns of participants, increased by 0.01%; Body insurance has 208.4 thousand participants, decreased by 4.9% compared to 2019.
Total insurance revenue in 2020 reached 5.622,9 billion VND, of which social insurance revenue reached 3.774,7 billion VND, increased by 2.9% compared to 2019; health insurance reached 1.569,9 billion VND, increased by 4.9%; unemployment insurance reached 278 billion VND, an increase of 1.9% compared to 2019. Total insurance expenditure in 2020 reached 6.209 billion VND, of which, total social insurance expenditure reached 4.635,3 billion VND, health insurance reached 1.451,6 billion dong, unemployment insurance reached 122.2 billion VND.
3. Investment
In 2020, although large-scale foreign investment projects in the area have been basically completed and put into production, the investment capital of the foreign-invested economic sector in 2020 decreased by 4.3% compared to the same period, but the implementation of investment capital in the locality of the domestic capital sector increased by 4.9% over the same period, so the total investment capital in the area in 2020 increased compared to the same period.
Total realized investment capital in the area in 2020 at current prices will reach 41.3 trillion VND, increased by 2.2% compared to 2019, equaling 35.5% of GRDP; including: investment capital of the domestic economic sector estimated at 29.7 trillion dong, increased by 4.9% and accounting for nearly 72% of the total investment capital in the area (state capital 7.7 trillion VND), accounting for 18.7% of total capital; non-state sector nearly 22 trillion VND, accounting for 53.2%); the rest of the foreign-invested sector was estimated at 11.6 trillion VND (accounting for 28.1% of the total investment in the area), decreased by 4.3% decreased by the same period.
In 2020, there were 20 newly licensed FĐI projects in the area with a registered capital of 365.9 million USD, equivalent to the same period in the number of projects and decreased by 2.12 million USD in registered capital compared to 2019. 4. Price Index
Although in the last months of the year, the consumer price index tends to slow down (in the third quarter, increased by 4.8%; in the fourth quarter, increased by 0.53% over the same period), but because the price index in the first and second quarters 2020 remained at a high level (price index in the first quarter increased by 7.29%, price index in the second quarter increased by 5.26%), so the average price index in 2020 increased by 4.05% compared to the average of the same period. The main reason why the average consumer price index in 2020 increased higher than the same period last year was that the price of food group increased by 18.62%, leading to an increase in the price of food group by 6.5%.
On average, in 2020, the consumer price index increased by 4.05% compared to the average of the same period. Gold price index: On average, in 12 months of 2020, the gold price index increased by 26.72% compared to the same period. Particularly in December 2020, the gold price index tended to decrease compared to the previous month (-0.67%), mainly due to erratic fluctuations of the world gold price; compared to the same period in 2019, the gold price index increased by 29.49%.
US Dollar Price Index: the average of 12 months of 2020 increased by 0.16% compared to the average of the same period. Particularly in December 2020, it decreased by 0.19% compared to the previous month and decreased by 0.05% compared to the same period.
5. Operational situation of enterprises
According to the results of the Enterprise survey in 2020, the total number of enterprises and cooperatives in the province as of January 01, 2020 was 3.771 enterprises and cooperatives that are actually operating, an increase of 115 enterprises compared to the same period of 2019.
The total number of employees working in enterprises and cooperatives as of January 01, 2020 was 205.2 thousand people, decreased by 4.8% compared to the previous year, of which, the number of employees in the industrial sector was 100.7 thousand people in the domestic economy, decreasd by 3.4% compared to the previous year and 105 thousand people in the FDI sector, decreasd by 6.1% compared to the same period (in which, the number of female employees is 76,8 thousands people, decreased by 7.7% compared to the same period). The average number of employees in an enterprise was 54 people, a decrease of 5 people per enterprise compared to the previous year. The number of enterprises with less than 50 employees accounts for 97.5% of the total number of enterprises; the number of enterprises with 500 employees or more accounts for only 1% of the total number of enterprises.
The scale of operating capital of enterprises operating in production and business, as of January 01, 2020, was 497.6 trillion VND, an increase of 11.4% compared to the previous year. In which, the foreign-invested enterprise sector accounts for 66% of the total capital; followed by non-state enterprises accounting for 29.4% and state-owned enterprises accounting for the lowest proportion with 4.6%. The average capital size per enterprise was 124.3 billion VND, increased by 1.7% compared to the same period last year, of which domestic enterprises were 43.8 billion VND /enterprise, FDI enterprises were 3.109 billion VND /enterprise. The number of enterprises with capital below 10 billion accounted for 64.2% of the total number of enterprises; the number of enterprises with capital of 50 billion or more accounted for 11.1% of the total number of enterprises.
The average income per employee per month in 2019 is 9.4 million VND, of which the average income per employee of State-owned enterprises was 9.9 million VND /person/month and of non-state domestic enterprises was 7.3 million VND /person/month and of FDI enterprises was 10.9 million VND /month. Compared to 2018, the average collection of an employee/month in 2019 is higher than 483 thousand VND (because the domestic and non-state sector increased by 888 thousand VND/employee/month, while the FDI sector increased by 343 thousand VND/employee/month).
6. Production and business results of some industries and fields
- Agriculture, forestry and fishery
The production value of agriculture, forestry and fishery in 2020 (at the compared price to 2010) reached 14.056.2 billion VND, increased by 4.2% compared to 2019. In which, the agricultural production value reached 13.016.9 billion VND (+3.9%); forestry sector reached VND 555.5 billion (+9%); the fishery sector reached 483.8 billion VND (+8.1%). Total grain production in 2020 reached 460.2 thousand tons, decreased by 3.7 thousand tons (-0.8%) compared to 2019; in which rice production reached 383.4 thousand tons, decreased by 1.3 thousand tons and maize production reached 76.8 thousand tons, decreased by 2.5 thousand tons.
The total available tea area by the end of 2020 was 22.399 hectares, increased by 0.5% (+117 hectares) compared to the same period, of which the tea area for products was 19.754 hectares, decreased by 1.6% (-328 hectares). The average tea yield was 123.74 quintals/ hectares, an increase of 4.6 quintals/hectares, so the output of fresh bud tea reached 244.3 thousand tons, an increase of 5.2 thousand tons (+2.2%) compared to production in 2019
In 2020, livestock production in the area will face many difficulties such as foot-and-mouth disease on buffaloes and cows; African Swine Fever; price of animal feed increased, the price of piglets remained high due to limited supply; Avian flu epidemic occurred in some neighboring provinces, affecting the psychology of farmers... However, due to timely and effective response solutions, livestock production in 2020 still achieved certain results. And although the cultivation area decreased, due to intensive farming, the harvest productivity increased, contributing to improving the product value per hectare of agricultural land.
The total area of newly planted forests concentrated in the area in 2020 was 4.721 hectares, a decrease of 675 hectares (-12.5%) compared to the newly planted area in 2019 (including 4,274 hectares of production forest; 447 hectares of protection forest). In which, centrally managed enterprises planted 137 hectares; the area of newly planted forest under the forest protection and development project reached 1.597 hectares, the area of newly planted forest planted by the people themselves reached 2.987 hectares. Timber production reached 190.5 thousand m³ of logs of all kinds, increased by 9.6% compared to 2019.
Aquaculture area in 2020 was 5.957 hectares, an increase of 34 hectares compared to 2019 and mainly extensive farming accounts for 73.6% and the remaining 26.4% was intensive or semi-intensive farming.
- Industry
Industrial production in 2020 was negatively affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, especially in the first 6 months of 2020. Industrial production value in the first 6 months of 2020 decreased by 3.2% compared to the same period (the only year in the last 10 years where industrial production value in the first 6 months of the year decreased compared to the same period). - Commerce
Commercial and service activities in general in 2020 are also directly affected by the Covid-19 epidemic when for many consecutive months, they decreased sharply compared to the same period. However, due to the good work of disease prevention and the application of many effective measures to stimulate consumption in combination with the year-end shopping "season", the people's demand for shopping and consumption has increased again. contribute to regaining the growth momentum of the service sector in general.
Total retail sales of goods and social consumption services in 2020 will reach over 40 trillion VND, increased by 3.8% compared to the same period (if excluding the price factor, the total retail sales and revenue of social consumer services in 2020 would decrease by 0.2% compared to 2019). In which, the state economic sector was estimated at 2 trillion VND, increased by 6% compared to the same period; the non-state economic sector was estimated at 37.9 trillion VND (accounting for 94.7% of the total), increased by 3.7% compared to the same period; the foreign-invested sector reached 88.7 billion VND, decrease by 20.1%.
- Export, import
Import and export activities in 2020 were strongly affected by the Covid-19 epidemic when they were limited on both the supply side and the demand side. Raw materials for production were limited; The demand for products in markets, especially major trading partners such as the US, EU, China, and Korea, has been seriously reduced. Although in the third and fourth quarters, import and export activities showed signs of recovery, but for the whole year, export and import values still decreased compared to the same period.
Total export value in 2020 reached 24.4 billion USD, decreased by 11.9% compared to the same period; in which, the foreign-invested economic sector was estimated at 24 billion USD (accounting for 98.1% of total export value), decreased by 11.7% compared to the same period; local exports were 137 million USD, decreased by 21.8% compared to 2019.
The total value of imported goods in the area in 2020 was estimated at 14.5 billion USD, decreased by 7.3% compared to the same period. In which, the economic sector with foreign investment was estimated at 14.3 billion VND, decreased by 7% compared to the same period and accounting for 98.7% of the total import value.
7. Some social problems
- Population, labour and employment
The average population of Thai Nguyen province in 2020 was nearly 1.308 thousand people; an increase of 16.9 thousand people (+1.31%) compared to 2019. Male population is 639 thousand people (accounting for 48.9%); female population is 669 thousand people, accounting for 51.1%.

The unemployment rate of the labor force in the age group in 2020 was 1.7%, of which, the urban area was 2.32%, the rural area was 1.46%. The underemployment rate of the labor force in the age group in 2020 was 2.3%, of which the urban area was 2.69% and the rural area was2.15%. Compared to 2019, the unemployment rate of the labor force in the age group in 2020 was 0.09 percentage points higher, the underemployment rate was 1.33 percentage points higher.
- Residential life

- Social order and safety
In 2020, there were 165 traffic accidents in the province, killing 60 people and injuring 151 people. Compared to the same period in 2019, decreased by 3 cases (-1.79%), the number of dead people decreased by 07 persons (-10.45%) and the number of injured people increased by 02 persons (-1.31%). In which, the area with the most accidents was Thai Nguyen city with 64 cases (accounting for 38.8% of the total), killing 14 people (accounting for 23.3%) and injuring 54 people (accounting for 35.8% of the total). 7%). The safety of railway and waterway traffic was stable and there was no traffic accidents.
