1. Population

     The average population of Thai Nguyen province in 2020 was 1.307.9 thousand people; an increase of 16.9 thousand people (+1.31%) compared to 2019. The urban population was 419.7 thousand people (accounting for 32.09%); rural population was 888.2 thousand people (accounting for 67.91%).

     The total fertility rate in 2020 reached 2.16 children/female, continuing to remain at the replacement fertility rate. Crude birth rate was 15.82‰; Crude death rate was 6.6‰. The mortality rate of children under 1 year old was 13.75‰; the mortality rate of children under 5 years old was 20.63‰; the natural population growth rate was 9.22‰. The average life expectancy of the population of the province was 73.7 years, of which 71.4 years for male and 76.4 years for female.

2. Labor and employment

      In 2020, the province's labor force aged 15 and more reached 770 thousand people, a decrease of 7 thousand people compared to 2019. Labor aged 15 and more orking in economic sectors in 2020 reached 758 thousand people; in which laborers working in agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors were 293.4 thousand people, accounting for 38.7%; industry and construction sector 261.6 thousand people, accounting for 34.5%; service sector 203 thousand people, accounting for 26.8%.

     The unemployment rate of the labor force in the age group in 2020 was 1.7%, in which, the urban area was 2.32%, the rural area was 1.46%. The underemployment rate of the labor force in the age group in 2020 was 2.3%, in which the urban area was 2.69% and the rural area was 2.157%. Compared to 2019, the unemployment rate of the labor force in the age group in 2020 was 0.09 percentage points higher, the underemployment rate was 1.33 percentage points higher.
