High-tech organic tea project cultivates a green economic space
The High-Tech Tea Production and Processing Factory Complex and Organic Tea-growing Area Project in Quan Chu Commune, developed by Quan Chu Tea Joint Stock Company, broke ground on May 19 as a large-scale agricultural project with a total investment of approximately VND 1,200 billion, opening a new development path for Thai Nguyen's tea industry. With an orientation toward building a high-tech organic tea zone integrated with modern processing, digital transformation, tea culture conservation and eco-tourism development, the project is expected to drive green economic growth, elevate Thai Nguyen tea brand and establish a sustainable development model for the new phase.

The foundation of a modern tea ecosystem

Thai Nguyen has long been known as Vietnam's "premier tea land”, leading the country in tea cultivation area, productivity and output. However, tea production in many parts of the province remains small-scale and fragmented, with limited value added, weak supply chain linkages and restricted access to premium markets. This reality calls for a transformation in development approach, shifting from traditional agricultural production toward a modern agricultural economy that applies high technology and pursues sustainable development.

Quan Chu Commune offers many favorable conditions for developing a large-scale organic tea model. Located on the eastern side of the Tam Dao range, Quan Chu enjoys a year-round cool climate, a diverse ecosystem, distinctive natural scenery and a long tradition of tea cultivation. These attributes form an important foundation for developing a high-quality tea raw material zone integrated with eco-tourism and tea cultural experiences.

What makes the project noteworthy is not only its investment scale of VND 1,200 billion, but its approach to development through an integrated value chain. According to the investor's orientation, the tea plant is positioned at the center of an ecosystem connecting organic agriculture, processing industry, digital technology, commerce, tourism and indigenous culture. Across approximately 300 hectares, the organic tea raw material zone will be developed to modern standards, in a coordinated manner with comprehensive traceability. It is regarded as one of Vietnam's largest, most systematic and most purposefully oriented concentrated organic tea zones.

Alongside the raw material zone, a modern tea processing plant will apply IoT, artificial intelligence and digital management across the entire production chain. From cultivation, care and harvesting to processing and commercialization, every stage is technology-controlled to ensure transparency, consistent quality and compliance with increasingly stringent international standards.

Global consumer trends today place particular importance on origin transparency and sustainable development. Building traceability systems, "product passports” and digitizing production data is therefore of great significance, helping Thai Nguyen tea become more competitive in demanding markets such as Europe, the United States and Japan. Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Quan Chu Tea Joint Stock Company, emphasized: With Thai Nguyen Tea Development Scheme, we are researching implementation under a comprehensive private economy model. The enterprise focuses on five pillars; the goal is not merely to sell products but, more importantly, to elevate and promote cultural values so as to bring Vietnamese tea to the international stage, with a new mindset and a commitment to ESG standards (the framework for assessing and measuring corporate sustainability and responsibility toward the environment and society).

The High-Tech Tea Production and Processing Complex and Tea Cultural Experience Space in Quan Chu represents a harmonious combination of modern production capabilities and a space for preserving and promoting traditional tea cultural values

Making tea the axis of green economic development

One of the key distinguishing features of the high-tech organic tea cultivation, production and processing project, combined with the promotion and conservation of Thai Nguyen Province's tea varieties in Quan Chu Commune, is its approach to placing the tea plant within a harmonious relationship among economy, culture and environment. The value of tea is extended into the cultural, tourism and eco-experiential sphere. Under the project's development orientation, the tea heritage is regarded as a living cultural value that must be preserved, reconstructed and passed on. Tea ceremonies, indigenous knowledge, the history of the tea-growing region and community identity will serve as the foundation for developing eco-tourism, experiential tourism and tea cultural tourism.

This also aligns with the green tourism development strategy that Thai Nguyen has been pursuing. Products such as "Tea in the Clouds”, "Lake on the Mountain” and tea cultural experience spaces are gradually helping to define the character of Thai Nguyen's eco-tourism and tea culture tourism. The project also expands the economic development space for the northern Tam Dao region. Alongside the high-tech organic tea complex, the implementation of Quan Chu Cultural, Sports and Golf Course Complex spanning nearly 90 hectares reflects a coordinated development orientation integrating green agriculture with high-quality services.

From a social standpoint, the project is expected to help improve people's living standards. When joining the organic raw material zone, tea-growing households will receive support in technical knowledge, production processes, quality management and market access, thereby gradually increasing the value of their tea, stabilizing output channels and improving incomes. Notably, the project aims to support approximately 200,000 farming households and cooperatives, particularly those led by women, through training in management, legal matters and production model transformation in line with ESG standards. The significance of the project therefore extends beyond economic performance to encompass the goal of enhancing community capacity and achieving sustainable rural development.

From a traditional tea-growing area at the foot of the Tam Dao range, Quan Chu today stands on the threshold of transforming into a new center for organic tea, modern tea industry and high-quality eco-tourism. If implemented effectively, the project will serve as a development catalyst for the local area while opening a new path for Thai Nguyen's tea industry in the process of global integration and competition. More importantly, the project embodies a new development mindset, one in which economic value is closely bound to cultural, environmental and human values. When the tea plant is placed within a comprehensive development strategy linked to modern technology, transparent governance and long-term vision, this model is expected to become a new benchmark for Thai Nguyen's green economy and high-tech agriculture in the coming time.
