Discussing on developing tea plant value and carbon economy

On the afternoon of December 23, a delegation from Thai Nguyen province held a working session at the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST), Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Hanoi. The working session was co-chaired by comrade Nguyen Huy Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Loi, Director of VKIST. The working session was also attended by directors of various departments and representatives from several prominent tea cooperatives in the province.

At the working session, Chairman of Thai Nguyen Province People's Committee Nguyen Huy Dung said: Three contents that Thai Nguyen is interested in and wishes to cooperate with VKIST include: development of tea plant value; carbon economy and development of new-generation industrial parks.

Representatives of VKIST also informed Thai Nguyen Province Delegation about scientific research and analysis on the utilization of tea products, especially valuable active compounds such as Catechins and EGCG. Following discussions, both parties agreed to establish a working group to immediately implement initiatives aimed at increasing the added value of tea products while utilizing tea plant components to create value-added derivative products.

Regarding green development, both parties addressed the effective exploitation of carbon credits and the development direction for new-generation industrial parks in Thai Nguyen province.
