Strengthening the Party's leadership on scientific and technological development

On May 15 morning, the Department of Science and Technology held a workshop to review the implementation of Directive No. 21-CT/TU dated July 25, 2017, of Thai Nguyen Province Party Committee. The directive focuses on strengthening the Party's leadership in science and technology development to serve the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country (Directive No. 21).

Scene of the Workshop

Directive No. 21 of Thai Nguyen Province Party Committee aims to provide significant guidance for the province's science and technology activities. Following the directive, science and technology (S&T) activities in the province have seen robust and comprehensive development across various fields, including social sciences and humanities, technical sciences, technology, medical sciences and agricultural sciences. The level of S&T development in several fields within the province has reached an advanced and modern standard. The contribution of S&T to the province's socio-economic development has increased, with a significant improvement in both the quantity and quality of the provincial S&T workforce.

After seven years of implementation, the Department of Science and Technology and related agencies have advised the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Council and the Provincial People's Committee to issue nine legal documents, 38 projects, programs and plans related to S&T development. These aim to concretize the directive's orientations and tasks for S&T activities according to the province's actual conditions. Various departments and localities have issued over 200 documents to implement S&T development tasks and solutions within their sectors and localities. As a result, several notable achievements have been realized: In 2023, Thai Nguyen ranked 10th nationwide and first among the northern midland and mountainous provinces in the Provincial Innovation Index (PII) announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The total factor productivity (TFP) contribution to the province's economic growth (GRDP) consistently surpassed the national average, achieving 51.3% during 2016-2020 (national average: 45.7%) and 50.4% during 2021-2022…

Delegates of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development gave presentations at the Workshop

At the Workshop, participants focused on evaluating the results of the province's S&T and innovation activities for the past time, analyzing and clarifying the outcomes in specific sectors and localities and proposing solutions to make S&T a critical driver for developing Thai Nguyen into a modern industrial economic center in the northern midland and mountainous regions and the Hanoi Capital region by 2030.

Emphasizing the workshop's objectives, the leadership of provincial Department of Science and Technology expressed the desire for continued collaboration and enhanced implementation of S&T activities among departments, localities, universities, research institutes and S&T organizations in the province. The provincial intellectual community and scientists are encouraged to provide consultative feedback and contribute to making S&T activities more effective.
